“I don’t think I fully comprehend the magnitude of that milestone. We celebrated on set, and I remember kind of thinking – yeah, sure we did – of course we’ve done a hundred episodes. We did 99 episodes last time, and 98 the time before, and of course we’ve reached a hundred. It’s like the inevitable. [Sound turns off at this point when Evi is still speaking] I think a hundred is amazing, I think a hundred is completely due to the brilliant writing that we have on this show…”

Episodio nº100. Entrevista.
Favorite episode?
“I loved the episode in season one where Boone dies and baby Aaron was born. That episode summed up everything from the tragedy of death to the miracle of birth. It showed people at their most vulnerable, living with no luxuries, with none of the things we all take for granted. It just got down to the essentials.”
What you like most about your character?
“I think you never know what you’re going to get from Kate. She’s a really mixed bag of tricks. She’s flawed and makes mistakes but is also amazingly strong. I think that’s really special because we see all these female characters who are surreally inhuman. They’re these warriors who never break down. In a lot of ways she represents the everyman. She tries her best, but she screws up all the time. Damon (Lindelof) and Carlton (Cuse) have been generous enough to develop a real arc for her. I’m lucky she’s continually changing right to the end of every episode. … I love that Kate represents the reality of the everywoman doing her best and just trying not to screw up.”
What was the most shocking twist in the storyline?
“I’m very surprised that Kate ended up with Aaron. If you could trade jobs with any actor on the show, I’ve always said I would like to play Claire because I’d like to be a mom. I always wanted to wear the pregnant suits. After saying that for four years, my wish was granted. That surprised and absolutely thrilled me. It was great, because Kate was almost completely self-involved, tough and focused, and then she has to let everything go to be a mom and make herself totally vulnerable.”

Entrevista

Lost star Evangeline Lily takes time to share her beauty secrets and tell us why she’s so pleased to be the face of Davidoff Cool Water.
Why did you want to be the face of Davidoff Cool Water Women?
There were so many reasons. When they first approached me I was really excited and hyper-flattered. I remembered that when I was a teenager, I always looked at posters for Cool Water and thought it was the epitome of natural beauty. I even remember saying to my sister when I first saw the advertising, ‘oh my goodness, I wish I could be that beautiful. I wish I could look that pretty’. So for me, it was hugely shocking and flattering. But ultimately, regardless of how flattering something is, I don’t associate myself with anything unless I truly believe in it, unless I truly believe I can incorporate myself into it and unless it is a natural fit.
Some of the things that appealed to me were that the real sense of power and strength came out, as well as it being a feminine, sensual image. Those two things are often juxtaposed. It’s often considered to be contrary that if you’re feminine you’re not strong, and if you’re strong you’re not feminine. The idea that those two things could be married into one image and one product that I could be a part of was really exciting to me.
Do you think your memories of Cool Water when you were young are very different from how you perceived the fragrance now?
I definitely think that Cool Water Women has changed over the years and I think that this is part of that morphing. I think that at one point, Cool Water was considered to be a very youthful fresh fragrance and it appealed to young women, but that right now there is a real shift happening with the image of the fragrance, moving a bit more towards a mature image. It’s more womanly versus a younger, vivacious image. I still think it has a lot of spark and I think it has a lot of energy. It is water, and water could not be anything but refreshing and exciting, but there’s weight now and that is more appealing to an older woman.
Does fragrance in general play a big part in your life? Do you have a wardrobe of fragrances or do you stick to one?
I change fragrance depending on my mood. It depends on how I feel when I wake up in the morning. Three hours later, if I feel differently I will actively and purposely change my scent to match my mood and the tone of what I am doing on the day. I always feel that if I’m on the beach in the day, I want to wear something different than when I’m out for dinner that night. And that’s not just in fragrances and colognes, that’s with lotions and body washes and hair products – everything, right down to cosmetics
Does your beauty regime play a big part of your life?
I think actually more so than almost anything else. I’m relatively low-maintenance so for example I almost never do my hair – I get out of the shower, put it back in a clip and I go. My make-up is always minimal too. But I never, ever leave the house without my fragrance.
Do you have to change your beauty regime for Hawaii?
Severely! I’ve gone from Canada to Hawaii. In Canada I was slathering Vaseline on my face at night as it was the only way I could keep it from drying out. In Hawaii, I use a really light moisturiser by Clinique called Moisture Surge. It’s like putting water on your skin because it’s so lightweight and is all I need because the humidity there does half the work for you.
How does your exercise regime differ when you are filming than when you’re not?
It definitely changes. When I’m filming I’m very active. It’s part of my job to be running through the jungle, lifting and walking – it’s constant as you never stop moving. At home in my own time, I do a lot of walking. I think it’s a highly underestimated exercise that’s so good for you. I also go swimming and try to do things that are enjoyable. I don’t like the idea that exercise is some kind of slavery, forcing yourself to do something that is harmful – that if it hurts you don’t enjoy it. Sometimes I’ll put on a pair of shorts and dance around my living room until I sweat and that’s my exercise for the day.
When you’re in Hawaii do you take advantage of your surroundings to exercise?
For about two years I was a surfer, although this past season of filming I really didn’t find much time for it. The other reason it’s difficult is that being out in the sun that much is so hard on the skin, so I’m always balancing whether or not it is worth it. I’m not a life time surfer – I’m a temporary surfer while I’m in Hawaii! Although it’s also one of the things that helps you incorporate yourself into the culture there which I think is really important.
What do you use for a sun protection?
When I am at work I always use Neutrogena SPF55 – nothing gets through that! But then shamefully when I’m on my own at home I use Hawaiian Tropic SPF8 on my body. I really don’t put my face out in the sun – I wear hats, I use umbrellas and I put scarves round my neck as often your chest is what gets so damaged.
What are your favourite products?
Other than those I’ve mentioned, I use L’Oreal Sublime self-tan, as having a bit of a tan in Hawaii is a must. I’m also a die-hard fan of Neutrogena Hand Cream. When I’m travelling is essential. I won’t go anywhere without it as it’s the all-purpose cream – it functions for absolutely anything.
